Auto Insurance Requirements in Utah

State laws mandate that all drivers must be insured by automobile insurance in the event of an accident. Each state has it’s own minimum required amounts of this insurance. Many states hold the responsible party liable for damages occur from the accident the individual caused. Other states are considered to be no fault states. These states do not determine who was financially responsible, therefore the drivers in these state must carry additional types of clauses in their automobile insurance policies. Utah is considered to be a no fault state.

Residents of Utah must carry personal injury protection since it is considered to be a no fault state. This coverage provides payments for medical treatments in the event of an accident. The state minimum amount required for this type of insurance is $3000.

Utah also requires it’s residents to carry liability insurance on their automobiles. This coverage is used for bodily injuries and property damage. Each driver is required to obtain a minimum of $25,000 per person, or $65,000 per accident, of bodily injury liability coverage. They are also required to carry a minimum of $15,000 of property damage liability insurance.

This state is one of a few that does not require it’s drivers to carry uninsured and underinsured motorist liability insurance. It also does not require drivers to carry collision or comprehensive coverage on their automobiles. However it is always a good idea to carry these clauses if the individual can afford the higher premium amounts.

Utah is considered to be in the desert region of The United States. This means that Utah typically does not get a lot of rain. However the state does see frequent storms that produce large amounts of rainfall in a short period of time. These storms often cause flash floods to occur in many parts of the state. The state is also known for dust storms as well in many parts of the state. The northern areas of the state also see large amounts of snow periodically in the winter months.
