| No matter where you move to in the United States, you have different
insurance requirements. In the great state of Kansas, you are required
to maintain liability coverage on ALL vehicles, unless they are
off-highway or non-operational. You are required, by state law, to
maintain AT LEAST $25,000 per person bodily injury, $50,000 per
accident for bodily injury and $10,000 per accident for property
damage. In addition, residents of Kansas are required to have a policy
that has AT LEAST $4,500 per person medical expenses, $900 per month
for a year for disability or loss of income, $25 per day for in-home
services, $2,000 for funeral, cremation or burial expenses and $4,500
for rehabilitation costs, as well as underinsured or uninsured coverage.
Personally, not much of this made sense to me a few months ago, but
after hitting a deer and closing my pick-up door on my fingers a few
months ago, it makes a bit more sense.
Deer and other animals are a VERY big hazard where I live. You
have to be alert and watching ALL the time, and even then, sometimes
you can't avoid them. With rain drainage ditches along almost every
road, as well as stands of trees where deer like to hide anyway, it is
VERY difficult to drive very many miles and not hit a deer. We also
have other animals such as bobcats, raccoons, possums, skunks, cows,
horses, and goats (to name a few) that are occassionally hazards on the
roadway.
In addition to the animal-type hazards that we have, we also have
tractors and other slow-moving vehicles such as horse and carriage that
makes our roadways around here a natural obstacle coarse.
Another one of the MAJOR hazards in this area is in the Winter
when we get an ice storm. On top of that, we get hail in the
Springtime, and we always have the possibility of floods from too much
rain and tornados, also.
All in all, this is an area of the country that has more than it's
share of insurance needs!!! Why not take a look at yours and see if you
need some extra coverage today? |
