Auto Insurance Requirements in Georgia
The minim insurance varies from state to state. In the state of
Georgia, it is required for you to carry Liability Coverage. This is
the minim coverage that you can posses in the state of Georgia. A
person who lives in the state of Georgia are not required to carry
personal injury protection or Uninsured Motorist coverage if they
posses Liability Coverage only.
Liability Coverage for the state of Georgia includes $25,000 per person
for bodily injury, $50,000 per accident for bodily injury to two or
more people and $25,000 per accident for property damage.
Some states have a ‘no-fault’ insurance law. Which means that your
policy must pay medical bills for yourself and your passengers, no
matter who caused the accident? This law intends to keep insurance
fraud to a minim. However, in the state of Georgia, this law is not in
place.
When looking at your insurance policy the coverage is going to look
something like this: 25/50/25. The first number could be the maximum
coverage for property damage per accident. The second number could be
the maximum for all injuries that occurred in one accident. The third
could be for bodily injury and is the maximum for one person injured in
the accident.
Georgia requires that you have these minimums when you operate a
vehicle. However, if you have a loan on the vehicle the requirements
will depend on the loan terms. In most cases, they will require you to
have Full Coverage. Full Coverage includes bodily injury, property
damage, Collision and Comprehensive Coverage, Underinsured and
Uninsured Motorist Coverage. Depending on the policyholder, they may
require you to have some or all of these or include additional
coverage. This is just to ensure that they are covered, and receive
full compensation if of an accident.
Collision coverage will cover to make the repairs that it will cost to
get your car fixed when you are in an accident. Comprehensive coverage
will cover to repair your vehicle if a natural disaster occurs.
The type of minim coverage that you are required on your vehicle will depend if you have lien holder.
